So I just bought a 2001 4Runner 4x2 with 140,000 miles and since no service manual came with it I can some questions about the maintenance schedule. As soon as I bought the truck I changed the oil, air filter, cleaned out the throttle body and MAF sensor. What else should I be looking at doing on this thing? I bought the car with no real service records before but it was for only 5k with a lift and 285 tires.

I'm trying to make this as much as DIY project as possible and any help as far as what I should replace, lubricate, etc and at what mileage intervals would be most appreciated. I know you guys have a lot of knowledge that you can pass down my way.

Welcome to yota tech, if you search you will find the info your looking for, But let me see if i can help you a little. The first thing we need to know is what engine you have ?, you have already changed the oil and air filter, the next thing you should do is replace the plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, cap and rotor, and if you want to go all the way then you can change the transmission fluid and the dif oil. After all of that just do the regular services at 3000 - 4000 miles.

It's a 3.4L engine. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I'll go ahead and do some more searching.

no cap/rotor on 5vz-fe.... when you buy the plugs and wires you are going to be SUPER confused at first... so you only buy three (3) wires... real wierd I know... and then you buy six (6) plugs and they have to be dualpointed (2 points).... so you have coils....three (3) coils... and they are located on the passenger side on the valve cover... also, if you want to do something like performance exhaust, for example; I had to replace the cats because they were falling apart...so i put in a low-restriction magnaflow cat and 18" magnaflow muffler... so the below threshold O2 sensor was throwing bad readings thecause the low restriction cat purges less polutants so to combat the "bad readign" you must buy something like the URD sensor simulator on (location is behind the glovebox).... anything else?

Yea, I noticed the distributor-less ignition when I took a look under the hood for the first time. I think I'll also try to get the field service manual when I get my next paycheck.

chilton's manual is awesome... and not too expensive... also they should carry then in the local libraries
