Trailer Brakes

The trailer my wife just bought has brakes on it. It only weighs 950lbs, but I figure what the heck it has em, I'll use em. The 4Runner already has the 7pin connecter, so does it have a plug and play device under the dash for the brake controler?

And where are you guys putting your brake controlers

Get the Prodigy controller and the Toyota direct wiring harness (from Prodigy). There is a factory plug under the dash on the driver's side. It comes up from behind the side kick panel. You can mount the controller on the fuse box cover. You can get a replacement cover from the stealer for when the controller is not in use.

Cool Koz, does the same plug and play exist for the 01 taco?
I am looking at the same issue, new trailer with brakes. Why not use em

Koz is right. I did the exact same thing. I'll take a pic of the mounting.

The 4Runner and Tacoma use the same plug. When I got mine, the 4Runner plug wasn't available yet, used the Tacoma plug.

If you have the tow package, there should be a pigtail in the glove box that shows what the end looks like under the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. Don't use it, since for about $10, you get one from Prodigy with both ends you just plug in.

See my post in this thread for more info on the Prodigy controller.

I'll go take a pic and post it shortly.

I regularly tow up to the max (7k) with my '04 Ltd 4Runner. Not an expert, but lots of experience, I'll share what I know, just ask!

One more. Shows the wiring. See the Prodigy mount wires in the bottom right corner and the top right shows the white connector under the dash.

I had to cut the zip tie when connecting it, then put a new one on.

Not the best pic, but it's hard to get lighting in the rain

Hope this helps.

That switch on the right? Oh, that's the chaff deployment switch. Can never be too careful these days...

Just kidding. It is the RSCA off, side curtain airbags, so they don't deploy if you are offroading a little rough. Even if off, they're supposed to deploy on impact, like a complete roll, but won't anticipate in a steep tilt.

I haven't tested that theory, just what the dealer told me.

If you want to see all the gauges and buttons light up at once, just get it going and off the ground for about 3 seconds (around 65-70mph over a good hill) and the whole thing lights up and beeps. Lots of fun...

PS- forgot to mention, secure all loose change and drinks first. You've seen videos of Nasa's upchuck zero gravity plane?

Yeah, I have had all the beeps and whistles go off on the gound... playing on the snow.. if was funny me and my buddies went up in the mountains to go to some hotspring, the road had about 1' comact snow on it so I was utilizing the AWD and trac control... it would flash if I slid, then beep if I slid a lot.. my buddy say "your rig is telling you to knock it off or its gonna tell the wife how you drive!"
