Dumb 05 4runner "Maint" light question

Dumb question. My "Maint" light came on which says I need an oil change.

Does anyone know if the 05 4runners have a smart maintenance system. I know my BMW indicates an Oil change based upon the conditions I drive. Or does the light come on when my miles hit a certain number iregardless of the driving conditions?

so which is it? Is it every 5,000 miles or does the system detect when your oil actually needs changing with the "maint" light so it can come on in 2,000 miles if i drive in the dirt all day?

It's got a double negative, although, it is used heavily in casual conversation.

Why not? Because this is the internet and we're talking about Toyota trucks here, not grammar.

English is English - speak it properly or don't speak it at all. It drives me NUTS when people say "what does it matter?" - it DOES matter.

"Usage note: Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis. Irregardless first appeared in the early 20th century and was perhaps popularized by its use in a comic radio program of the 1930s."

Back on topic, here's how to reset the light yourself:

TSB EL002-03 has these instructions:

1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.

This is a 4th gen forum, meaning many of us paid over $20,000 for the vehicles in discussion so apparently someone takes offense to imporper use of the English language spoken and written in America.
