I have the 261 Crawler cam from Engnbldr - there is a noticeable increase in low end power. Idle isnt as smooth, but I can feel the engine really pulls better in low rpms, it doesnt stall out as easy if that makes sense.

I am running LC headers and exhaust as well.

I am running the C270 cam from DOA Racing (doaracing.com). It works great with the 22RE FI system. Plus Tim, the owner, is willing to give lots of advice on how to set things up. That guy has spent several hours with me on the phone and is always super patient. He is also one of the first people to start doing the metal-backed timing guides. I rebuilt my 22RE timing setup with his kit and I have had great luck so far.

DOH! I just found the VERY long thread on DOA Racing and all the issues people have had.

I rebuilt my 22RE with a lot of the parts he provided. All the parts were new and I had no issues. I had a local shop do all the machine work for me and I built the engine myself.

While I had no issues with him, I would have to say that I do not recommend anyone else use his parts. It seems he frequently is not "on the level" when it comes to his work (especially his heads - pun intended) or his parts.

The cam I have I bought a LONG time ago, may 6 or 7 years ago when he was in CA - I forget the date. It was of good quality.

I recommend going with some of the other cams recommended here.

i went with ted's 268 cam, and the results are noticeable. according to ted, he found 8-10% gains with just basic exhaust system upgrades. increasing the timing helps.

Cams make the biggest change in engine performance characteristics and your smog test...
I'm running the DOA C270 and aside from gas milage really like it. It has good low to mid range power. It dies off at the top end.

For a while I had the engnbldr 268 cam. It was a real high rpm cam. Had lots of power from 3-5k and up. It is a fun cam for the freeway or washes but wasn't good when you needed low end torque. You really have to rev it up to get power then end up burning out your clutch.

The engnbldr cam gets better gas milage. I was getting 18-20 depending on how much I used the throttle. The DOA gets 17-18. Mostly 18 no matter how I drive it.

For the DOA CAM and other parts I bought, they were all good. The CAM was of good machine quality.

Other people on this site have had issues with his machine work AND his parts.

It sounds like sometimes Tim can deliver on his parts for people and other times not.

If you order stuff from him, be careful and know what you are getting. If you are ordering stuff that he is just reselling versus stuff that he has "blueprinted" or assembled, you should be ok.

I heard some people complain that his cams were not done off of fresh blanks. They were re-grinds that were of terrible quality.

Just what I have seen so far on this site...

My DOA cam'ed engine gets about 17 to 18 mpg, FWIW.

The TRD is supposed to be good. I never leave the ashpalt with this truck.
Highway revs are up the wazoo right now.
