turbo questions

well my buddys G/F has a 87 turbo auto she let it run out of oil yesterday and the motor is seized up this truck did not leak oil too bad but the turbo would suck a quart down every 2 weeks or so

so now he is looking at having the motor rebuilt and removing the turbo altogether will what will he need to do to leave the turbo out from the rebuild

dose he nee a new ECU?
will he need diffrent piston heads or are the turbo ones ok to run?

any ideas are welcome
thanks

turbo moter has lower compression...

so NA 22RE has higher compression pistons..

Dunno about the ECU... probably run OK if you leave all the sensors...

The ECU is very different

here's the basic run down of stuff you will need to change:
Pistons
head
injectors
Injector plugs
ECU
exhaust manifold
Intake piping
emissions junk
Rad(or simply soder the turbo pipe closed/off)

You will also need to block off the oil feed.

I'd say your better off selling that motor as a "turbo core" include wire and ECU and picking up a new core and such from a wrecker .

Probably the best idea.

There are enough little oddities between the two that it would be cheaper and easier to start from scratch.

well looks like he is going to get the rebuild kit from engnbldr and has a guy who will do the bottom end work then he will put the head back on and everything else.

good thing is he has a second turbo motor so he is going to have the work done on it and then pull the one in the runner and swap them, the rings are blown on the second one as well.
