Tow Pkg?

first off, i want to thank everyone for helping me make the right decision on getting allpro's 1.5 inch rear springs. I swapped them out today. The 4runner looks like a normal SUV, and it runs better than ever. Anyway, i was just wondering if anyone knew what the factory tow package comes with normally besides the hitch. I'm gonna start towing a trailer with a dirtbike and an ATV., and in the summer, I'll be towing an 18 ft boat or 2 jet skis. wanna make sure my 157,000 mile engine and transmission are ready for it. let me know please.

Oil cooler for sure, tranny cooler maybe. If you have an auto I'd get the tranny cooler.

I have a 96 4runner with the tow package. I asked the same question and was told that it never comes with anything but the hitch. So in installed my own tranny cooler.

thanks for the quick responses. i'm definatley going to look into a tranny cooler first, because oil coolers can get pretty expensive.

does your tranny not have a cooler stock?

I'm only asking because I just pulled out my A340F from my 86 pickup, and it came with a cooler, albeit a small one. I've seen pictures on A340H's with the same cooler.

Make me wonder something, if you have the tow package it should have a tranny cooler? My T100 does and so does my friends runner. WHat get sme if my radiator is def not stock, it says GM and is much larger!

AFAIK 4runners never came with a stock tranny cooler. With my thread i was told they don't. I have yet to hear about anyone with an a/t say that it has one. I do know that it runs through the base of the raditor for cooling though. I think full size pickups are probably more common to have them built in for towing. My friends F-150 has one, just because the ford tow package includes a tranny cooler.

they do run through the radiator and the transfer case has its own little cooler inside the passenger frame rail but no tranny cooler. you can pick one up from autozone or somewhere for 50 bucks

I still haven't weighed my trailer I got, but I think the 22re did great towing it.

Either way, your max towing is 3500 lbs with a towing package. With a 4cyl automatic, its maxed at 2,000 without the towing package.
