the toyota is almost alive but I've read i have to jump power between this connecter to reset the computers timing. My question is do i jump the connecter then turn the ignition on then set it to the correct timing or would i leave the connecter jumped while i try to start the vehicle again

On my 1993 22re I did it while my engine was running.that is if your talking about timing it. It's the t and e2 by the fuse box.

Its alive but i was missing a oil sensor in the block! Time to go buy more oil but shes finally running!

You can connect the terminals at any time. The manual you are referencing has the engine running when you connect the T and E terminals. Make sure you do plug off the engine side of the hose if you have a vacuum mechanism on your distributor. Prevents a vacuum leak and gives you base timing before the vacuum actuator does its job. Otherwise your timing will be way off.

thanks guy got it running pretty good. Just have to fix some coolant leaks and bleed the clutch again as it peaked as well :/ is there an o ring or washer that goes to the metal coolant pipes the connect to the back of the timing cover? Im just going to rtv it in an attempt to fix the leaks

I'd recommend getting the fsm and fixing the leaks with the right gaskets, etc

What gaskets? You have a part number? They have the standard gasket from the timing cover on them but they still leak

You'll get a lot more useful help if you can FIRST figure out what your vehicle is.

I'm going to surmise it's a Toyota, but beyond that you're making us all guess. Year? Model? ENGINE?

86 toyota sr5 efi 22re. Im referring to the coolant pipes that connect to backside of the timing cover. One on the drivers side, the other on the passenger side. My question is do they have o rings or washers to seal them if so please provide the part number or a link. I bought this truck with a blown up engine. I bought a used block and bought a brand new head. I put this entire thing together without ever taking a look at a manual. It runs great and doesnt leak a drop of oil the only thing it leaks is coolant. The links you provided did not help to answer my question thanks though.

The first picture looks like the heater water outlet pipe, and the second like the No 1 water bypass pipe.

The first link I provided shows that the timing cover gasket extends to gasket those two connections:



Your second photo looks like there might be a gasket; I can't tell from the first. Did you use that gasket?

Both gaskets are there and brand new. Both leak

Fixed with ultra black. One more leak to track down. Hoping its just the thermostat seal but if not ill be replacing the intake manifold gasket AGAIN. Oh well

Could be the pipe that's under the intake manifold

nah its pooling on the top of the intake. Hoping it was just leaking from the thermostat house as the old thermostat seal was crap. If not, time to replace intake gasket again. Not a huge deal i gues since i have the motor mostly taken back apart.

Sold it. Fixed the coolant leak then it started pouring out of the timing cover. 22re is the most finicky motor ive ever dealt with.
