ok for the past couple months my temp sensor has been bouncing. it hasn't been consistant until now. It constantly bounces between the cool and middle of the temp guage. I haven't really tracked down if there is a pattern between when it bounces but it does seem like that the sensor goes to the cool zone when i put the pedal to the floor. Any thoughts?

Start with the cheapest fix, which would be probably be the Water Temperature Sending Unit. It sounds like a faulty gauge to me.

that happened on my civic and it turned out to be low on coolant. cheapest thing first!

Sure that's the cheapest part on the cooling system, but it's been going on for months. Same thing happened in my Toyota and it was the sending unit.

But your right, start with the coolant.

mine did it for months too while i tried to decide where to buy my temp sensor. then i realized it was low on coolant

well it's not the coolant level. where is the sending unit and how much are we looking at?

Sending unit is located below the intake, near the thermostat housing. Should be a blue wire, not positive though. Might check with shop or dealer. The unit should cost anywhere from $20-$30. Replacement is fairly straight forward.

I wish I could give you more info on the location, but I have a 22RE that has been jury-rigged and some of the wires are not original.

For the 3.0, the sending unit is on the back side of the motor (thermostat housing is on the front side) behind the plenum on the right side of the heater hose. One wire goes to it. O'Reilly has them dirt cheap....less than $20. Maybe less than $10, but I don't recall exactly.

BTW, not to hijack, but Tdubbs....how are those Dueler A/T's working for you? Are you still running them?

hmm well maybe i'll look into that. anyone got an exact pic of the sending unit and where it is on the engine exactly?
