I have a 2.25" pipe on my 22re and it made a huge difference in power delivery.
Have you ever driven a 22re before and after a 2.25" exhaust was installed?

******** I have a Magnaflow on my rig.. no header, with the original cat. A friend has a header and a flowmaster (With cat) on her rig and it sounds a lot deeper than mine. My truck is very quiet which was I originally wanted with a slight growl to it. Not as quite as stock tho. But ofcourse the engine is louder than the exhaust from within the cab.

22re exhaust
I had a muffler shop put a magnaflow and 2.5" pipe. It's all he had. I would have liked 2.25" .He deals with muscle cars mostly. You can see in the pic he put the muffler right after the cat. Clearance could be an issue if you wheel a lot.
The trucks bottom end suffers quite a bit but I wasn't going to bring my own pipe to the shop and I don't have a welder of my own yet. I thought I had read somewhere 2.25" was an ok max for 22re? I was told as few bends as possible helps with efficiency. (hope that's not retarded obvious) Anyway the sound is pretty agressive and fairly low. Not too many import tuners look at the truck when I pass by. Some V8 old school types give a glance but I know I'm not fooling anyone. Overall with the LC header it's a bit louder than I would have liked but not to the point of annoying on the daily commute. I wish I could tell you exactly which magnaflow it is-all I know is it is stainless of some variety. Hope this helps, here's the best pic I could get. |

Try the gmail address. ovrrdrive@gmail.com Btw, magnaflows are rated by length. Take a tape measure to it and you'll know which one it is. Measure length, height, and width and the inlet and outlet size and you can pinpoint it on their webpage. I'll bet you have a 14" oval like mine in 2.5"...

22re exhaust
If you can host the mp3 that would be cool. I sent you two. The second one is better.
The muffler I have measures as follows: 18" long 4" high in the center (it is an oval) 9" width 2.5 in/out facing the front of the muffler the inlet is staggered left in the rear the outlet is centered. |

I just installed my thorley header this weekend. I'm running 2.25 piping carsound cat. and 18 magnaflow muffler. I'm happy with the performance gain but it's a bit too loud for me. Nice quiet idle but sounds a bit ricey to me. Gonna see about a resonator this week to quiet it down a bit.

The Magnaflow doesn't sound too bad. I personally find them to be too mellow.
My set up with be Header with 2.25" collector to a Flowmaster Hushpower 2 muffler (2.25 in/out) to a dump. Should sound pretty good I hope.

When I get around to it, I'm gonna run a Doug Thorley Tri-Y header into 2.25" stainless all the way back to a Cherry Bomb Turbo Oval II muffler and then dump it out at the stock location behind the rear tire...I have a 22R, but I just wanted to share... (and yes I know it will be loud)
