Seat Back Play
Hi Everyone...my first of what I am sure will be many, many posts over the years.
I just acquired a 1990 SR5 4WD Xtra Cab to use as my daily driver. Truck I always wanted. Don't plan to modify it much, but I am sure I will have lots of questions.
I tried to search for this one, but couldn't find anything. The drivers side seat back has about 1/2" of play back and forth. Really not a big deal, but I keep thinking there must be a way to tighten it. I took the trim piece by the adjuster off, but the compression spring and everything else looks fine. So just wondering if anyone has ever solved this problem.
Thanks in advance!

So I realize this is not a huge technical problem. It is just slightly annoying and seems like something that shouldn't be too hard to fix. I was thinking about replacing the recliner mechanism...until I looked up the part and it's $140 :O...and I don't even know for sure that would solve the problem.

Try simply shimming the catch that holds the seat. Duct tape works well, but you will need to replace it if you use the seat a lot. Still a roll of $2 duct tape is a lot less than $140.

Cool...thanks. I will give that a try. I need to take the covers off again and see how the catch works. I know there is a compression spring in there as well. If I figure out a fix I will post my findings.
