Retrofitting power locks?

My 4runner has manual locks and windows. I'm starting to realized how much of a pain it is to reach around and unlock all 4 doors when I have multiple passengers. sooo...

Would it be possible to retrofit power LOCKs into the 4runner. Really all I am wanting to do is have a master lock up front for all 4 doors, dont need them at the doors themselves. I have access to a '95 that PROBABLY has power locks and windows. Guy just hasnt gotten back to me about that yet. Obviously I would need the locking mechanism for each door, but would it retain the manual lock feature?

yes u could, also if u go to a store that sells car alarms then have acuators that will bold in with little mod to the locks u have now and all u have to do is run wire to each one.

they sell kits for this. do a search on the interweb, and you should find something. i am thinking about doing this as well, but i always have a fear of locking my keys in the cab. manual locks force me to think about where the keys are (eg: ignition or my pocket). i would install the power locks, but only un-lock from inside and key fob, and only lock from the fob.

my $0.02

u can also do a out side enter button for just the times u do lock the keys in or forget the keys when just running out to get something. just hide a button somewhere and there ya go.

hmm, good idea.

actually, now that you reminded me of it, they make capacitive sensors, so you might be able to wire one of those up... just a thought

I have never locked myself out. I have a spare on me at all times and 3 more keys at home. Wanting to put a hidden key somewhere in the off chance I DONT have a spare on me and just happen to lock myself out. But this is beside the point.

That eBay kit you sent a link for looks pretty interesting. Cheap. Might look into it.

Thanks guys

Make sure you get a good kit.

I had one a couple years back that had power door locks and an alarm. It was pretty cool cause I wired my parking lights to go off when I unlocked/locked it.

I ended up getting rid of the set up I worked so hard on because the alarm beeped every 5 min and never goes off (I jumped on it did everything to set it off) and it didn't have all the wires like shown in the diagram so the unlocking and locking didn't work the way they should.

sensitivity on the motion sensor was not up all the way or it was a bad sensor or didnt have one, was only set off by opening the doors.

I'm not wanting an alarm. Vehicle theft and robbery is not a very big concern in my town. Yes, it happens, but I live in a great neighborhood, rarely go or park downtown. Plus, thieves usually target higher class cars

I'm just looking to have a master unlock switch somewhere within arm-reach of the driver (me). That link that Justin posted was pretty neat. It said they lock/unlock when I use the key or the plunger. That would be pretty handy. I woudnt even have to hit a switch
