removing spare tire from rig
Today I was trying to remove my spare tire from under my rig, and no luck. It is all rusted and the thing will not turn. Any help in this matter would be great.
No, I don't have a flat thank god, or I be stuck. Just wanted to take it down to lube things up. I guess it's to late for that. Anyway, any help on this?

Let the air out of the tire, then use a jack to squish it up under the bed. You can usually get enough slack to work the holder loose and drop the tire.
Or you can cut the chain/cable.

I did a searsh, and PB seems to be the best way to try to get it loose. My question is, should I spray it for a few days and then try, or just spray it, beat it, and hope for the best?

You can try PB, but you live in a salty part of the country - that thing is rusted SOLID. There's a little gearbox over to the driver's side that is right in the way of the spray coming off the rear tire. It's DONE.
Get to cutting.
If you want a new hoist, let me know. I have one that was bought by a previous owner about 5 yrs ago, it's a chain style instead of the cable style, but works great.

I think when I do get it down, it is going to go up in my rack, this way I don't have to worry about getting it down ever again. Any draw backs of being in my roof rack?

I hope nobody minds the thread jack, but I have a slightly different problem with my spare tire carrier.
It spins freely despite being quite rusted. Except, the chain doesn't move at all. No matter how much I spin it, the chain is locked in place. Anyone have an idea of what's wrong? I'm half tempted to ratchet strap the tire under the truck.

I ended up cutting mine off then i made a mount by drilling a hole in the same spot the original mount was. drilled the hole in the center and put a piece of threaded rod and a locknut on top and then fastened the tire using a small square piece of sheet metal and nylon locknut.

I thought mine was toast too...it was fairly close. Turns out my trouble was in the gear box...maybe yours is too. There is a pin after the gear box - remove the pin then remove the bolts holding the gear box onto the frame. Then try and turn the rod to lower the tire. Then remove the cover on the gear box and hit with PB Blaster - let it sit then do it once again for several days. Mine freed up after that - then coat with lots of grease.
