Alright I'm a bit stuck here. I've searched and searched and cant find a good solution for my problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

94 Pickup 2WD and I'm in the process of replacing the lower control arm on the passenger side, along with the bushing. I was able to put together a great little tool to push the rubber out of the bushing with an impact drill (will post pics if anyone would like), but the metal hasnt budged.

Using a torch to burn it out seems a bit useless now that the rubber is out. Dont think that would accomplish anything. The other alternative I can think of is using an impact hammer/chisel to try and push the metal out from the edges, but that seems like I would end up causing quite a bit of damage to the frame.

Any ideas???

Am I going to cause damage to the frame if I use an impact chisel?

Maybe you could weaken the shell by sawing it with a hacksaw blade held in vice-grips so very little chiseling would be needed.

Thanks for the advice. I did try getting in there with a sawzall, with no luck, but I'm guessing I need a better blade.

My impatience got the best of me and I went ahead and tried to hit the side without the lip with the impact chisel. No luck. I'm bending the metal up slightly, but I also was catching the frame I think.

Msg BlazeN8. I know he rebuilds those all the time. though they are the 4x4 arms. it may be a similar problem.

What about using a air hammer too crush the sides of the sleeves? Then bopping it out with the air as well? Mind you im unfamiliar with the 2wd control arm bushings but if its like the 4wd it could work.

That was the original idea, but it looks like the hammer is going to cause just as much damage to the frame as the sides of sleeves.

You have any pics of how it looks? Maybe you could fit a ball joint remover in there? I'm just throwing ideas now.

Here's a few images of where I'm at. Last 2 are of the side without the lip (rear side), and first image is of the side with the lip. The side with the lip I have not touched with impact.

The ball joint remover I tried didnt fit around the frame. I could try the same tool I used to push out the rubber, but I havent been able to find anything (washer) that fits inside the area and still catches the metal casing.

Have you tried using a socket? If you haven't try using a socket with a extension you don't like and then take your air hammer and give'er on the extension. I hope you have a strong air hammer though. If not a big a$$ hammer might do it.

I got your PM and link back yo this thread. I have not messed with 2WD so I am not familiar with the design. Check with Total Chaos or one of the other company's that make a kit for your truck.
