Regearing questions

Ok so I'm looking to move up in the world of 4x4 by regearing either my differentials, or my tranny, to 5.29... Which would be best? And what has this ussually cost you guys?

(94' 4runner, Sr5 4wd auto tranny, going to run 33's.)

First.. Try using the search, to be honest this subject is covered every week at least once.

Now down to buisness, since you have an auto you will want to step up an extra gear size then people with a manual would.
And you would be regearing your differentials, not your transmision.

i.e

Auto:

31" - 4.88
33" - 5.29 (altho many people have gone with 5.71 and 33" tires with the automatic)
35" - 5.71

Manual:

31" - 4.56
33" - 4.88
35" - 5.29

Ok thanks. But that wasnt specifically what I was asking, I had already gleaned from searching and reading that last couple days that I would need 5.29 for my set up, but more specifically what it would cost, and where I could find them....

Buy the gears first. www.yukongear.com is always recommended. Taking the diffs out yourself will save you tons of money.
It will cost anywhere from $150-$250 depending on... If they want more, look elsewhere. If you dive into any shop your looking at $400+ per axel.
CALL www.dunksperformance.com for the parts.

Also see www.gearinstalls.com to have the work done and/or to learn whats involved.

I don't think ZUk is doing gears right now with it as hot out as it is... Unless he finally bought an AC for his shop.

Shoot I must of read that the other way somewhere else...OK I have an Auto and want at least 33's on there, I had planned on 4.88...do I need 5.29's?

I thought 5.29's were for 35's and larger......

5.29's are for 35-36" tires, but with a manual 5 speed transmission...

If you have the auto and 33's that's the gear you need too.

Ok so my 4runner I believe came stock with 31's, so does anyone know how I could check to see if it was on of the ones with the 4.88's factory geared?

I'm on 33's with 5.71's... It drives better than stock. I thought about 5.29's but I am glad I went low.
