v6 to v4
hi guys im new to this forum. ok well i had a coupl of questions. im really interested in buyin a 1988 toyota pickup from a local guy. the only prob is that its a V6 with 380,000 miles. i know its guna need another enigne pretty soon so my questions are:
can a v6 be swapped with a v4 without changing trannys?
or am i better off replacin with another v6?
the v6 are rare around my area. i feel like i can get ahold of a v4 easier and i herd theirs alot of problems with the V6 heads. any help would be greaty appreciated

If you FIND a V4, let me know.....
Now, assuming you meant swap a I4 for the V6, then yes, it can be done. it will take time, money, and fab work, but it is possible, I think it will probably need a different tranny, or at the very least some bellhousing modifications, possibly an adapater at advance adapters, but I dont know...

i didn't know toyota made a v4
i think you are taling about the 22re that is an inline 4
you would be surprised how long that engine will run if you take care of it and don't drive it like a drag car. just keep up on the maintance and it could last you much longer then you think.
380,000 has to be some sort of record on the 3.0L

I think only Volvo makes a V4--therfore i would suggest maybe getting an Inline 4cylinder engine instead of the V4. V6 versus Inline 4--i have never really heard of a backwards swap--but if they are that rare and hard to get i guess it would be a reason.

All I have to say is, for 2200 I bought a 90runner with a v6, 120k and perfect mechanical. Some minor rust on door that has been fixed.
take that 2000 and look elsewhere.. 300K is a lot.. awesome.. but a lot.. and has it been rebuilt? or replaced

What makes you think it will need a new motor soon, anyway? You said it runs "strong".....so, what's the problem?
$2k is too much, regardless. Talk 'em down.
