Thanks brother...I think I will go ahead and get the 5.29s because I see some crazy deal on them gears....pretty much you and the following guys answer my question unlike everyone else.....thanks a million again.
X2 here. If you are planning on an SAS later on then go with the 5.29's now. You'll already have the right gearing for 35's (which you'll probably want with the SAS) and you can sell a 5.29 IFS front pretty quickly. From what I've read 5.29's with 33's isn't a bad situation so you'll be happy with it while you save money for the SAS.

IMHO:
forums are like a public pool in your neighborhood. you've been going there forever, see plenty of people you've known forever, and it feels like home. but on any day someone new could come in to the pool. maybe they'll pee in it. who knows. but IT'S A PUBLIC POOL. if you don't like the public, get a private pool.
AND, the lifeguard doesn't just choose not to rescue someone because he's rescued a dozen people already. SO IF YOU LIKE TO HELP PEOPLE, DON'T TAKE THE LIFEGUARD JOB.
you don't HAVE to answer if it bothers you. some people don't mind helping, and THEY will answer the noob's question.
@ DEFIANT: 4.88's are fine for 33s, but if you ever think you'll upsize to 35's, go with the 5.29s now and be done with it. then add a locker to the rear. THEN WORRY ABOUT SAS'ing.

I look at it like you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, or teach him to fish and feed him for life.
Here's a fish for today, but I'm not fishing for you everyday

BTW any gearing question should start with transmission type, tire size and engine since optimums are dependant on these variables. I'm not sure the OP ever said if he has an auto or manual tranny, so how could anyone give a good answer without that info?

I was hopeing to maybe and another dimension of discussion as speed. Personally i am in a 94 runner 22re usually heavy(tool, camp, gear) 32x10.5 winter 34x10.5 summer. I would like to be able to cruise summer highway (65 oregon) and to the mountain (winter tire) at 50ish w/ decent grade.
I don't have much problem with rowing through gears with 5.29's (used to it in my car) but i need the speed on the 34's maybe more if i went to cali. With the 4.88's im worried my heavy truck small motor syndrom would get the best of me. I don't know that i have anything to worry about either way.
O and sadly i admit that i always have to put it in 4wheel to go offroad cause i need 4low untill someday a twin stick. it would be nice to not drop to low all the time.

I believe your questions have been answered over and over. You need to learn to use the search function, and yourself not be an A when people tell you to search, or provide info for you.
Now everyone play nice or Imma have to start handing out teh bamhammers!!

Do some searching and less smack talking
mt goat did pass something along to you, click the links and do your own homework instead of wanting others to do it for you.
Keep up the lack of searching and mocking those who do offer assistance and you won't be around much longer.
