oil pump adjustment screw ????

Anyone have any information on the threaded item extending from the oil pump on a 95 4runner?

I am wondering if this is an adjustment for the high pressure relief valve. My oil pressure is lower than it should be (1 lb @ warm idle and 11 lb at warm 2500 rpm). I am wondering if I would install an allen wrench in the opening and screw it in farther would I be increasing the compression of the spring and therefore be closing the relief valve opening which then might increase the actual supply pressure of the pump. I am not really sure what this item is for and any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated.

How is adjusting the high-pressure relief valve going to increase your low rpm pressure since its purpose is to divert TOO MUCH pressure?

Low oil pressure is caused by:
Using too thin oil for the environment (using 0w when you should have 5w or 10w when cold, or using 5w15 when you should have 5w30 when warm... for instance)
Having too much wear on your crank or rod bearings (letting too much oil leak around them)
Having too much wear on the top end- cam, etc. (letting too much oil leak around them)

You didn't say what weight oil you're using now so... it's hard to say what your issue may be.

Probably he wouldn't be able to answer your question, Abe, since he doesn't know what the part in question is for.

Mark.....run a google or YT search on low oil pressure and causes. See if anything rings a bell. It might help to understand what creates oil pressure, as well.

Corax, if he's referring to the allen head on the pump body, that's not an oily galley plug. The blue one on the block is, though.

Changed oil from 10W40 to 20W50.
Looking for relief valve to see if it is adjustable - maybe it is relieving too much oil and if I can close the gap the pump will be able to supply more pressure. Or maybe the spring is too short or the piston is not getting all the way to the bottom due to burrs or undersized hole at the bottom or ......
I did not find out what the part in the picture is but I did find out where the relief pressure valve is. It requires oil pan removal to inspect. Oil pan removal requires taking engine out or removing front differential. Bottom line is no quick way to inspect.

Thanks for the input and no hard feelings. I know what I don't know and the only stupid question is the one not asked.

okay, well anyhow. so you put a real pressure gauge on there and checked the pressure. It's possible the relief valve isn't closing all the way due to some gunk or whatnot build up. Maybe an engine flush treatment or seafoam in the crankcase before the next oil change could cure that problem. It's also possible the oil pump itself is on its way out.

engine is recently installed remanufactured. Supplier will send me a new oil pump or another remanufactured engine. He will pay all the shipping. I think I am going for another remanufactured engine.
Thanks.
