New 86 4Runner

i grew up in k.c. mo, no way i'd want to face those missouri winters with the old warmup system :-0
of course, that was back when the midwest had a real winter season... it's all messed up back there now! farking winter comes in march, not january! then tornadoes the next week, followed immediately by drought conditions, lol
it's just as screwed up in so cal... howling santa ana fall season winds a couple of weeks ago, houses burning up four miles from where i live... 100+ degrees by the beach, in may, is unheard of out here.

Yota81,
She's looking better and better!
I've started working on reviving my paint and re-doing the shell on mine. TR3 that Mark (Chefyota) recommended does wonders. Will post pics soon.
Yep, crazy climate.
Here's a picture of Coco's fire from top of Iron Mountain during our full moon hike:
Looking the other direction, full-moon rising...

Read something in another thread about checking this valve by pulling off the hose with the engine running and checking to see if the engine idle changes.....well I tried that and nothing changed....this mean the valve is no good? Valve on back of engine.....
and this is the cold start injector....correct?
thanks

i think that vacuum hose controls the fuel regulator? the other end should plug into what looks like a vsv, on top of the valve cover.
was there any vacuum on it at idle? i've never tried unplugging it while the motor was running.
that is indeed the cold start injector.

no vacuum at idle...which may explain why nothing changed when I unplugged it with the engine running. My engine runs good and has decent throttle response, but in my quest to figure out my hard to start issue, I came across the hint of checking for proper operation of that particular valve I pointed out. I just changed out my cold start temperature sensor with a new (used) one that I cleaned up real good. I'll check on it again and verify the no vacuum.

Does anyone know if other year 4 runner (or pickup) dome lights work with my 86? I've tried to track down some used ones, but with the different interior colors and the age of these trucks has made that a little difficult. I see some on ebay that are for 89-95 4 runners......was there a design change that made them not fit in the earlier 4 runners? I don't care if it is not the same shape as long as the mounting holes align.
May have found my answer....post #24. May take a bit of trimming, but I'm gonna try. I'll post the results.

update...
Swapped on a 1990 intake.....pretty easy to do and now cranks better, but the write ups out there about this are painfully lacking in information. I'm not sure why someone would take the time to dedicate a webpage to swapping intakes and not include all the info/parts needed. I'll try and get better info out there. So be aware that when you look online for info on this swap, there is some info out there, but nothing complete.
Ordered new starter contacts from 4crawler and fixed my clicking starter issue. Cranks like a brand new one now. THere are some good videos on Youtube to walk you through this.
The previous owner of my 4 runner installed rear disc brakes, and started to install the Sky Manufacturing T Case brake. I bought it with the disc installed on the transfer case (correctly) but when I install the caliper and caliper bracket, the one of the brake pads contacts the rotor and locks the vehicle in place. There is not much difference between the caliper thickness and the opening of the caliper so the fit will be tight regardless, but does anyone have some experience installing this thing and can help with some adjustment tips?
Here it is before installation...look correct?
Here you can see the caliper contacting the rotor. When installed, the caliper locks the rotor down, and the vehicle won't roll.
Thanks

well I got the t case brake figured out.
Does anyone know what the pieces are called that clip on the underside of the hood that supports the washer fluid lines? is there a generic piece that can replace those? Are these pieces used on many other models?
Thanks

Bolts
M8x1.25 for front skid(20mm long) and gas skid(25mm long). 12mm heads. The front skid bolts have a wider washer. But, like Terry says it's easier to grab a bunch in the yard. Had these off today for a continuous skid plate project.

I need the clips under the hood that support the washer fluid lines. Anyone know the correct nomenclature for this part?

the window rolls up and down, but will not retract enough into the door to allow the rear door to unlock. I got the door down after some work, and looked inside. It seems to me that the gears are a tooth off. Is it possible for these things to jump a tooth, and is that something that can eb adjusted? When lowering the window, it rolls down and hits a 'stop' and won't go down any further, but needs to. This just happend the other day, before that it worked great.

Nice rig, great score. Reminds me of mine years ago. Will be watching your post. Definitely interested in the later intake swap was on to do list prior to truck being put on ice for a few years.
Will want you that if you wheel a cranked torsion bar lift you'll go through idler arms. But I was running 33"s will low profile bump stops.
