My 4runner smells like gas?

My 4runner smells like gas?
I have a '95 4runner. And sometimes when I start it it smells like gas. I don't see any leaks or wet hoses or lines. No spots on the ground. And it doesn't effect my gas mileage or seem to make a difference on the fuel gauge. The smells is definitely coming from the engine on the drivers side. Not through vents or the exhaust. I don't know what to look for or how to fix. Help?

What engine do you have in that rig?
Sounds like the vapor may be coming from the EVAP canister. Here is some general information as background and more specific to Toyota.

Thank you. It's a v6. And it's and automatic. That's all I know. I bought it from a friend. The head gaskets were blown and they rebuilt them and put in New half shafts. It runs beautifully. Just smells sometimes.

A leaking Fuel Pressure Damper (aft end of the RIGHT side fuel rail) seems to be a distressingly common problem at our vintage. That smell should be on the passenger side, but I doubt anyone's nose is that directionally accurate. Because fuel evaporates so quickly, you're not likely to get fuel on the ground.

^^ What he said. You will need a mirror to see the fuel pulsation damper to verify it's leaking. It almost never leaks enough to hit the ground, but plenty to choke you out or burn your vehicle to the ground.

If they didnt lubricate the o-rings when they installed the injectors, they could of knicked one of them and that cause a leak. Not sure where the Cold Start Injector is on a 3.0 but that is another source for a leak if the bolt is not tightened down or they didnt use new brass crush washers. Same for the fuel filter.
