Lightbulb Mileage Boosters

When I was still looking for my truck I asked what kind of mileage you were getting w/ your 22re and a lot of you were pulling 20 to 30. The 89 I bought will get 20 on a good day running the high octane gas, what can I do other than accelerate like my grand dad to get my mileage up?

Tame tires, low rpm shifting, light right foot.

Some trucks seem to get good mileage, and others don't sometimes...

Do a tune up. New cap and rotor, new plugs and wires, new air filter, new fuel filter, new o2 sensor, clean throttle body.

when you've got all of this done, you could look at reducing friction by changing the fluids in all the cases. some report mileage gains with redline, amsoil, etc.
look at those front wheel bearings too.

Do you have manual hubs? If not I would suggest putting them on.

Slow accel doesn't mean good mileage.

ya, i've done all the tune up stuff on my 85 4runner minus the 02 sensor (need to do that!) and still only getting 20-23 on the frwy if i'm lucky. i'm on 31 at's. maybe i drive too fast? been trying to be less agro. tell you the truth one of the reasons i wanted a runner with the 22re was for milage. crap, i can get better with a late model v6! love the sas and removable top but bummed about the milage. ya, i get its a heavy full frame truck with crappy aerodynamics and gearing but...still.
