If your vehicle is supposed to have a knock sensor then it would be more difficult to trick it than to just put one on.
The knock sensor has a piezo electric element that gives off an A/C voltage signal proportional to the vibration it recieves. it is tuned harmonically to the frequency of detonation ( about 7.1Khz) and at that frequency the amplitude of the signal increases tremendously. so if you where to build a A/C frequency transmitter and dial it in to the proper amplitude and frequency that would probably do the trick. But like I said before, it would be a lot easier to just replace it.

aside from the fact that it could save your motor in the event of a bad batch of gasoline, sticking injector, or dying fuel pump. (especially in turbocharged applications)

I purchased a used one off Ebay. Worked like a champ. I drove my truck for awhile without one and it ran fine but turned on the CEL ever time I would drive off.
Now go get one and protect your motor. Ever seen a piston with a hole through it caused by detonation? I have. Failed right in the center where the little dimple is located. Detonation can also beat the he!! out of your top rings. |

I'd think you could braze a nut with the proper thread onto the engine.

You can locate it here as indicated:
http://www.lcengineering.com/TechNotes/TechNote21.htm Note, There at least 2 different KS designs - make sure you match thread and KS design to your ECU.
