Jacking Position on Diff?

hi,

something i've always wondered about....

can i safely jack my truck using the differential as the place to position the jack?

when i change tires, snows to summer, etc. i awalys have lifted each rear wheel seperately. i was wondering if there wasn't a faster way to do it.

90 4WD XTCab v6

thanks.

ive always lifted from the center of the diff on all my trucks. break the lugs loose, and center the jack under the diff. just make sure the "teeth" on the "plate" of the jack arent poking into your diff or you might poke a hole. and make sure the center of the diff is centered nice on the center of the jack.

i would slide jackstands under it too on both sides while its up in the air, it takes all of 30 seconds to do that, and you never know when the truck might tip. especially when you have one tire on and one off, it kinda makes the teeter totter effect

And 3 2 1 post gets moved to newbie section.

Jack from any point on the axle housing. Use Jack stands. Same goes for the front, any piece of the frame... typically the lower ifs cross member.

Common sense will do just fine for figuring out how to Jack up a Toyota pickup.
