how to determine if head gasket was replaced

any way to determine if the head gasket was replaced in my '95 3vze pu? it's an early-year (nov '94), so from what i've read it appears to be subject to the HG blow issue. do you think dealers have access to that kind of information since presumably it would have been done in response to the recall? thanks

I phoned up the toyota customer service (800-331-4331 for USAers), and they even told me what year it was replaced in.

Just contact your local dealership with your VIN to check. Be sure to check about you steering relay rod recall, if you haven't recieved your notice, yet.

interestingly, when i called them today they looked it up and said that in the particular production run of my truck, the HG wasn't susecptible to blowing, so no recall was ever issued.

Then you probably have the 95 1/2 model. 95 was the last year for the gasket recall. Some of the trucks made late in the year did not need it. If you want to call another dealer just to double check, go for it. Make sure you get the relay rod done also.

DOnt believe them!!!

I have been fighting with Toyota Customer Service for 4 weeks.
The problem is there is an extension on headgasket recall. I have the paperwork that states if truck was not serviced since Oct 96. My truck supposedly had a headgasket replaced in May 96. No sticker in left hinge to show it. Also the Campaign they have on this work in 1996 was from the Campaign recall in Dec97. VO6.
I was lured in Toyota dealership by headgasket repair. The dealership knew service stated 5-96 . But they told me they did a 1991 4 runner 2weeks prior to my tow in. I told them if they were not willing to fix it for free under recall leave it on the trailer and I will have it towed back. They said take it off trailer. I am told 4 weeks later $4200 to fix it that Toyota said no. The real clicker is they did the steering rod recall and made money.. MInd I paid my tow in. I showed the Service guy my paperwork stating Since OCT 96. Mine was supposedly done in May 96.. Wrong Campaign code. He agreed yeah that is what it says I am right and if my VIN is in Vin range he will do work right then. He failed to follow numbers correctly. I faxed paperwork to 2 different dealerships that confirm MY VIN IS ELIGIBLE. Toyota service 1-800 has treated me like a coo coo. The dealership.. told me to have human compassion for human error. Golly I would have saved my $100 tow both wys for them to NOT MAKE money off my truck. I am looking at the paper now extension on trucks. 1990 -1995 trucks are included. I was told to get and attorney by one dealership that agreed with me and who is ready to do headgasket replacement. Toyota knows the headgaskets blow 2-4-times. Read the outcry of $$$ and no help. I will let you know on my end . Email me ccrep@juno.com let me know VIN and I will email you back VIN numbers and ranges. Let me know what you find out too. Anyone else?? BLown headgaskets Mine is 1993 4 runner SR5 6cyl. 3.0 ltr. Good LUck

I just had mine done. No problems except for a lot of initial grief from the dealership. And they messed up my coolant sensor somehow in the process.
