I see it all the time here but how do you know ...well I do not know what sr5 means...what is it?...i know i'm a dummy.............

SR5, while the origin is unknown to me, is a trim level. Across the board, back in the day, it was a mid to a high level trim. For example, the SR5 trim on the pickups was considered top of the line, as it was superior to the Deluxe trim. But at the same time, it was a mid level trim in the Toyota Camry/Corolla market.

SR5 today is limited to toyota trucks and some suv's. SR5 Tacoma and SR5 Tundra are both mid trims (with just Tundra and just Tacoma as the base trims), and the top trim is The "Limited". but, at the same time, SR5 is the base trim on the current 4Runner.

Basically, SR5 is an upgrade, usually mostly interior, non performance upgrade. I was always a sucker for the finer side of vehicles, so naturally i want to convert to the higher trim, plus i think having SR5 in big letters on the tail gate and those big ass chrome mirrors is pimp.

My friend picked up a 1990 ext. cab DLX. He had a 1990 4Runner SR5. We swapped everything from the 4Runner to the pickup, including dash and complete doors (good thing the 4Runner was a 2-door).
I had to work some of my magic to connect the 4runner harness to the truck harness. I'm good with a EWD (wiring diagram).

The more parts (sending units included) you have from the "donor" vehicle makes the swap much easier. Don't rush things, you do not want to burn up a harness or a computer because of impatience. Also have a good EWD on hand.

When you do start the swap, first thing you do is disconnect the battery. I've seen too many people work on electrical and wonder why the wire is sparking when it touches metal.

The actual SR5 stands for Sport Rally 5-speed. Although most of the SR5's now don't even come as 5 speeds. It started in the 1st gens and included things like bucket seats and an upgraded dash with a tach instead of the clock that used to be where the tach was. It wasn't very fancy back then but now it sure is. I think it also added an AM/FM radio instead of just an AM.
