EGR temp sensor

EGR temp sensor
Quick question, I have a 94 22re 4x4. I did an egr delete and now I keep getting a code 71 egr temp code. I expected it. Anyways I've read and researched and found that if you get a 10k ohm resister you can fool the code. I've even seen some pictures. In the pics it looks like the resister is attached to the temp gauge connector itself not the female connector coming from the ecu. Since the temp probe is no longer connected to the ecu how in the world does this fool the ecu? Do I need to plug the two connectors back together with the resistor in the middle? Thanks

Do what makes the most sense to you. You've got the right idea. You didn't really even need to ask. It doesn't hurt to though. I don't think any less of you for it.
Hint: It goes in the plug. But don't plug both into the sensor.
