CV Boot replacement - Toyota or not?
hello all
i've got a bad passenger's side outer CV boot on my '92 and i'm reading up on yotatech as to how to do the repair in the most efficient yota-techy way.
anyhow, it seems straighforward enough but there is one part i can't quite figure out. because my axles are fine at the moment, my idea was to go to the stealership and get a boot kit ($40) and go about that way, keeping everything OEM as is usually my preference.
for the hell of it though, i called a couple of aftermarket places (napa, auto zone, etc.) and for a little more than what the stealership wants, i can get a rebuilt axle with a lifetime warranty ($60).
am i nuts for wanting to keep it all toyota? or does it make sense to go with the parts store rebuilds with lifetime warranty on this? appreciate comments on the wisdom of either option.

I went with oem boot kits when I did my truck. My joints and axles were fine, just cracked boot on one side. However, if I had needed axles, I would have went aftermarket......regards......Rick

I've had a bad experience with the lifetime CV's from Autozone as well. They started clicking about a few weeks after I put them in.
If I ever have to replace a CV again, I'd probably get a used Toyota unit before aftermarket

Got 2 cheap "lifetime warranty" shafts from AutoZone cheaper than 2 boot kits from Toyota. They've been working great and they're not too bad to change once you've done it a time or two. Hope they aren't as bad as everyone says... Just FYI, jack up the control arm til the bumpstop is nearly touching and you won't have to remove ball joints. You will have to unbolt the bottom of the shock but then the shaft has just enough room to wiggle out.
