ok. ive been digging for my good ol swr meter since the built in one isnt working for anything.
when i first set it up the other day i heard a driver talking out in concord, a pretty good distance away, i could only hear him and he could not hear me.
since then ive had it on allll day and hear nothing!!
this is probably a ground situation bvut when driving, as the antenna sways back and forth the static cuts in and out. does anyone know why that could be?

I ordered a CB and antenna a few weeks ago, and will mount it when i get back from Korea. I was planning on mounting it on the rear bumper, but that doest seem like the best place to mount it from waht you'al say. A 4 foot antenna sticking off the top of the roof may get in the way though; any other ideas for mounting? Maybe run a bracket on the side from between the removable top and fender on my 4runner? How do u think that would work?

yea it helps with the ground plain and if you can't get it in the middle put it on the passanger side(used the least = less chance of coaxel breakage) and use a 18 ft section of coaxel to help with all the interferance and swr settings

Btw, I think his 4runner is from the years when you could take off the back topper.

placing on the top of vehicle is optimal for the ground plane. more square footage there better signal keeps the vehicle from being direcional...on the back bumper if there in front of you the talk is fine if there behind you they could be a mile away and you can barely pull them out, sorry for the wording but I think i'm still hammered from last night? ah it's 6:30 I going back to bed

That 18ft of coaxial thing is from days long past when we didn't have modern adjustable antennas. Just use good quality coax and use only as much as you need with a good antenna. Also Standing wave (SWR) mainly affects Transmit not receive so its common to hear some one from miles away but not be able to talk back if your SWR is too high.

my cb works good when my truck is turned off as well and my stereo and my amps for my stereo.
as soon as my amps turn on a ton of static comes from the cb and the db/pwr meter(built into the radio) goes to about 5 or 6 and stays up there. it goes away as soon as the amps turn off.
is there a way i can fix this?
there is also a whistleing from the cb while i am driving that incrases with the rpm of the engine????
