BIG idle differences between Park & Drive
Obviously an auto, 22RE.
I set timing and adjusted idle for driving, at stoplights I'm between 800 and 900 rpm. Park, I'm at about 1500! Cold starts, above 2000rpms!
Now, if I adjust for Park and cold starts to be more "normal," stoplight idle is non-existant (it dies). Turning on AC, forget it.
Why the major difference between the two???

Without knowing much more, I'd say vacuum leak(s)... maybe ignition advance too high.
My 91 auto idles in P or N at about 1100 cold (90F ambient) and comes down to 800 (160F+ in the engine)... and to about 700 in D, R, 2, or L.

I had a similar issue recently. I could not get the idle low enough with the pins jumped in the test connector. Even with the idle screw all the way in, I could not get it to drop to spec. In park or neutral, idle was 1200-1500 RPM. This was on a 3VZE, not sure if the 22RE has the same design.
It ended up being the coolant temp controlled solenoid in the bottom of the throttle body. The passageways were clogged in the throttle body, no flow was getting through. I flushed it out and the problem went away. That solenoid is designed to expand and push a piston into an opening. At startup it is a designed in vacuum leak. At temp it is supposed to close down.
You might look there, if you cannot find any vacuum leaks elsewhere.
