4x4nala - who makes the HD t-bars that you have? and how much did they lift the front end?

the best cheap lift would be ball joint spacers & new springs in the rear. 31's will fit stock with lots of room. A lot of the runners came with 31 stock. with the setup above you can easily run 33x10.5

Wow Toyofast...that is awesome that 35x10.50 fits....on the stock 7" rims it looks like. Thank god for 10.50 I have an 87 Runner with 33x10.50 on factory 7" aluminum wheels and I believe they will likely clear even with no lift.....though I do have 1.25" in the front and 3" in the rear at present. See the sig.

mtrdrms---I have the truly basic lift ... I cranked the rods in the front for just under 1.5" lift. Kept the same shocks and nothing else changed up there except for a Sears re-alignment....and it did re-align in spec A-OK. Some have reported a rougher ride up front with cranking....but I can't verify that. Seems about the same. Maybe it gets rougher noticeably if it goes over 1.5".

In the rear, I kept the saggy stock leafpacks....just figured a way to boost them up almost 3". I don't know how saggy your rear leafs are but if they are then it must ride rough being on the springboard. A long shackle will lift it some but it will not improve the soft factor.

mtrdrms and 881stgenrunner, lets make it clearly stated: HD torsion bars DO NOT give you any lift. The lift associated with t bars is all dependent on how you adjust them. As 4x4nala said the difference with the springs is the pre load or spring rate or what ever you might like to call it. If you put in HD t bars and set the adjustment bolts the same the truck will sit just the same but be stiffer. HD torsion bars could be useful if you plan to add a heavy front bumper and winch. Otherwise I would forget about it personally.

As stated by others, you can run 31's without any modification. I did that for years with no issues. If you want lift just because you want it, I understand that as well. If you want cheap as possible go with the t bar crank and rear shackles. If you want to do some upgrading go with the ball joint spacers up front and Downey lift springs in the rear.That would be in the same neighborhood of $300 that you are discussing. Also don't be afraid of a small body lift of 1-2 inches. I know there is some sort of concern with auto tranny on body lifts (check 4crawler's site) but I don't know the in's and outs of it because I have manual trans and just 1" BL. IIRC the issue pops up with the taller lifts (2+ inches).

I have the powerbarz, and as BLKNBLU says, I did not get any lift from just the bars. i orginally bought them because I STUPIDLY :pat: put the 3" rancho lift on. And since the pivot point is different my stock bars were done the first time I hit the brakes. Now I run the 4" procomp and have the HD bars. I also have a ARB bumper and winch, even still my bars are as loose as I can go....HD bars are really not needed unless you do have the heavy bumper, even still with my 22RE they are a bit much....

HD bars give no offroad performance at all, they CAN increase ride height, and WILL stiffen the ÅÅÅÅ out of your ride....

For on-road use...

31/10.50/15 MTRs on my 87 4Runner w/ NO lift. They fit fine with very little rubbing.

IMO, anything larger w/o a lift and you are asking to tear up something, whether it be a tire or a suspension component.

Crank the torsion bars and put in an AAL and you can run 32s or 33s pretty easily.

35s will "fit" but that would be about it IMO.

Fitting and driving it are two different things...wheeling it is a whole notha ballgame.

There are about 4.2 billion threads on Yotatech about lifting 4Runners, every generation in lots of different combinations.

Wanna just run larger tires, put a body lift on it and be done with it. Wanna put larger tires on and wheel it...then you are going to have to do some suspension lift and buy some components.
