the reason i have a 2nd gen is cuz i couldnt find a good 1st gen. and this 2nd gen was just way too nice to pass up. damn near brand new.

I own a second gen for a couple of reasons. I had a '84 pickup that I had for about 4 years, and sold about 2 years ago since I had bought a full size chevy truck for working out of. I sold the '84 toyo for no good reason other than I didn't have a lot of time to drive it. After I sold it, I started to miss that truck and figured one day, I'd buy another. Then in august of last year, my dad called me and told me a girlfriend of one of his employees was going to sell a slightly wrecked "pathfinder" with a new engine, clutch, and brakes, for only $900.00. Myself not being into nissans, figured I'd go look at it anyway for the possibility of a cheap 4x4 daily driver. When I showed up, it was actually a '94 runner needing a headlight, fender, front bumper, hood, and the radiator support pulled back out. So, I jumped on it right away. Now I'm about $2,300.00 total into a 22re/5speed runner. Best deal I've ever had! I wouldn't get rid of it if I won the lottery! Sure, I wouldn't mind owning a 3rd gen, but I like the 22re and 5speed combo even if it's a slug.

Wanted an extended cab taco with a supercharged 3.4 but it cost 5 times what i paid for my 2nd gen runner!

If someone gave me a new car, I would sell it and use the money to continue work on my 2nd gen.

Why? Because it's fun and relatively easy to work on. I also love the way it looks and drives.

Are we talking trucks or 4Runners? I love my 3rd gen, and it loves me. Don't think about that to much.

1990 5spd 133000 miles, paid $3800, had it for 2 months. OME coils/shocks, Aisins sitting on bench waiting for time to install. Why buy anything else?

I drove by it when it was for sale, went back that afternoon handed the guy 2500 cash and drove off in it. I love my truck I wouldn't trade it for anything.

(same as 2nd gen) It continues providing me with excellent service, highway and off-road. Why buy something for more $$$ ?

I started back in 94 when I saw one on the beach with the tail gate down!! awsome looking truck, so two years ago I bought for 4500 at and auction w/ 120K on it.

I got my second gen when it was 6 years old because a drunk wrote off my 85 solid axle EFI with 1 ton springs & 3 inchs worth of lift.

My wife wanted something that could house the kids in the future. Now I bought her a Sequoia so my old beater is now my wheeling truck. Motor & etc. is in perfect condition - delare couln't find anything to replace or fix when they had a blank checque so to speak. But due to high miles wasn't worth selling. That & I took the wife wheeling - she turned to me & said "You are not selling this truck" "Ah OK" i said

Because I've been in quite a few 3rd gens and never really liked them, they just felt too much like a car, or something. When I was a little kid, my neighbors got a 1995 4R, and I thought it would be awesome if I got one too, because I remember how much I loved that thing when I was a kid. Plus, 2nd gens have a truck-style tailgate, and that was the main reason why I got it I just don't like lift-up gates (vs. truck-style), they can be a real pain in the ass.

The only thing I really don't like about my 2nd gen is the rear window. While to can be nice to wheel with it down, when it breaks (Not an *if* but a *when*) it is a pain to fix!

But with that said it's pretty shaweet!

I wanted a DD to keep the extra miles off my 2002 Solara. Another criteria was that I wanted something to drive in bad weather. The 92 I own was in the right place at the right time at the right price. It had 145,000 miles on it when I bought it for $4,000. I put another $2600 in it (including new wheels and 31" x 10.50 tires). I love to drive it.

I love the way it looks and handles. The tailgate was a big deciding factor too. Those flip-up hatches just don't do it for me. I just wish there was an ARB sahara bar available for it.

I've been wondering, myself.

Actually, it was ideal for my needs when I bought it -- reliable and able to be my rig for transporting gear, dogs, and buddies to and from remote climbing areas. Then the first head gasket blew and I replaced the engine. Sunk a bunch of money into it thinking I'd have the ultimate reliable off-road toy when I was done -- a real keepsake that would stay in the family for at least a decade of 4-wheeling fun. Then the engine problems continued and now I hate the freakin engine, but have too much money into it to justifying selling it.

I love the mods I've done to it and it is very capable off-road. I retired it from DD status last year and now I don't have to worry about keeping it running full time, and I can beat the hell out of it off-road and not be concerned about the cosmetic damage (git 'er duuuun). So, for me it's still a good choice, but I wish I had sunk all the money I've put into three engines and just done a 3.4L swap. Then -- it would be perfect.

Its good to know that there all all these people who prefer the 2nd gen. I kind of thought that most people "settled" for a 2nd gen. I however, did not and I love my truck!
