Annoying rattle under acceleration
Got the truck all back together after doing a top end and replacing a bunch of "While You Are In There Parts". I also replaced the starter contacts because I was having some intermittent starting issues as well as everything from the cat-back (it was rather rusty).
I've noticed that when under acceleration I get this odd rattle noise. Not sure if it could be coming from the exhaust, or if it could be something else? Valve? Lifter? Looking for some ideas, maybe I can diagnose it a little more tonight.
TIA!
Andy

I have a similar issue that popped up after I had the muffler replaced. The new muffler has an odd tone at a certain rpm and it makes the rear deck vibrate a little. Since you did some exhaust work that may be something to look into.

I replaced my exhaust with a Walker direct-fit catalytic converter and a Dynomax system (with Turbo muffler). Honestly not the best system I've seen and the exhaust doesn't match up to the stock hanger locations. It seems while I'm driving and if I accelerate hard, the noise seems to be coming from the front?

I believe the timing is correct, but I could be mistaken. At idle or at normal cruising speeds, there is no rattle or noise. It only occurs under acceleration. My 4Runner is a 5spd, and when shifting in 2nd, 3rd, 4th....is when I hear the noise as I'm accelerating the vehicle.

my fathers 4runner has that. its just in low gears, but accelerating in the top of 2nd and low 3rd a weird rattle is heard. It took him awhile to figure out what was causing it, but it turned out to be the heat shield on the muffler.

Post rebuild (22re) I had 2 rattles pop up.
One was the metal bracket on top of the valve cover.
The other was the bracket holding the exhaust downpipe to the bell housing.

you can't duplicate it at all with your head over the motor and just twisting the throttle with your hand? so it definitely requires a load on the engine to generate the sound?
hmmm.. gonna need to hear it. i'll look for your video to post. but while it's cool at least give all your heat shields a tap-tap and see if they're close enough to be clinking the pipes. check the exh. manifold, cat, and muffler just in case.
