Careful, those fans have a startup surge current of 20 amps or so. I think the high current mode of your Fluke is only rated to 10 amps. You could look at the voltage drop to the load and then do the math to figure out the current - basically doing the work of a shunt.

If that fan only pulls 10A, it won't be pulling enough air to cool the engine by itself... but that does rule it out of overpowering your alternator, unless you alternaotr is bad.

??? Right, I know those fans pull 17amps at speed, they pull >20amps surge at startup.

The "10 amp" number is a concern over what the max current rating is for his Fluke DVM. If he tries to connect the meter in series with the power to the fans, it'll pop a fuse in the Fluke.

i thought the fluke was rated higher i will have to double check not sure though...
