94 runner headgasket;fix or swap
My 94 runner gradually puked a head gasket recently and to crush a man even more; TOYOTA politely informed me they already did the recall fix in 1989. Im now trying to figure what the wisest move is here. We all know this 3.0 is a dog and I don't have a pit crew to slam head gaskets in and out every few years. My 4 kids like to wrench but their 12 and under age group is not yet qualified for this midlife crisis! I've read about the3.4 but I don't know what donor vehicle or how big a job this is. In my earlier years Ive done alot of swaps and rebuilds but no later models with computers, ECU's, or massive drivability electronics. I really dig this forum and trust any input my fellow YOTA junkies can give. THANX

I would ask Toyota why the 3.0 continues to puke head gaskets from 1988 to 1995? The recall should have been all 3.0's. You should take your story to one of the big 3 news organizations IF Toyota won't budge. My research indicates they still suffer from head gasket failures while Honda doesn't. The Camry 4 cyl had the same problem, different engine, and my sister's puked at < 200K at an age of about 10 years.
I have switched to Honda for value and reliability. I only buy used Toyotas and none with the 3vz. It is a poorly designed engine and the chief engineer who signed off on that design should go to the top floor of the office and fling himself out the window.
My $0.02 rant...

That recall thing doesn't make sense to me. If they did the recall in '89, how does that cover your vehicle if it's a '94? Sounds like a run around.
1) You're vehicle wasn't even produce, yet.
2) The recall covered every year produced at one point or another. If your vehicle specifically hasn't been done yet, it should've been or should be.

Anyway....
Just type 3.4 swap into the search key and you'll find a lof of answers that way. I mean, you COULD get a lot of answers with this thread, but really it's been covered a number of times already. If you find you still have questions, then you still have this thread and anyone would gladly help if they can.
