'86 22R-E won't run right!
Ok, I have a '86 Toyota truck with a 22RE and a few weeks ago the fuel pump crapped out and I got a new one under warranty. It did great, did a rear axle rebuild and fixed the fuel pressure damper via JB Weld until I got a banjo bolt. I heard several guys want to block them off or have on other makes and models. It's always crapped and died. Example: I'll drive a mile and it'll die, let set a couple mins and it will drive another mile. I drained the tank and it had a rusty tank, cleaned it and ran clean fuel and I drove it several miles and it would be fine below like 45. I came back into town and it did it again. I start it and dies right away, let it sit a min and drove it through town and home. I pulled the pump and made sure the ends were tight on the pump and started it and it wont run 2 secs. The tanks clean, pump new 12 miles ago. I currently have the intake and injectors pulled to clean. The fuel was drained and 15 gals clean, last 2 were the color and consistency of pudding. The truck sit a while with the PO's and Im trying to make it a truck again. The ignition stuff from coil to plugs are all new by PO. It ran good before my axle rebuild, all Ive changed was plug a leaky Fuel Damper and clean the tank.

If you were running "pudding" through the motor before, then yes you probably need the injectors cleaned. And I assume that your damper was leaking fuel and so you put JB weld on it to seal it until you swapped it out for a banjo bolt like the newer 22re's have, any chance you got some of the JB weld into the fuel rail?

I could buy a new screen, after I cleaned the tank its the only thing I didnt do along with clean the injectors. Im cleaning the injectors today.
As for the JB weld I pulled the damper and let it set up good before doing this.

Sounds like something is getting into your fuel tank if the last 2 gallons were like pudding. check it for leaks very carefully. also if the pudding like fuel got into the motor then it went thru the pump, filter, lines, injectors and heads. I strongly recommend several treatments of fuel cleaners while your truck idles in you driveway to help clean it out.

Yes, first got the truck and it had about 15 gal dirty gas because I filled it up with a treatment because it wasnt firing at all on cylinder 3. I later found out the injector was clogged solid with a thick brown powder. I ran 8 gal out and it was fine, filled up and ran 1 gal to check my mpg. I then had the damper leak and I did a rear locker bcause I want to dd this truck. After those two things I am here. I fixed those two and it started crapping out so I changed the filter, and cleaned the tank, drained pulled and flushed it out. I know have the injectors out and screens are all nasty but dont appear clogged. Ill clean them out good, and do a pump pickup screen and if it still craps out I havent a clue.

i bet its your pick up tube strainer. ive worked on alot of different machinery that would die randomly in spuratic time intervals. manytimes you find some idiots glove tryying to get sucked up the strainer. Your gonna have to flush your system very well because it sounds like a lot of rust particulates went up there

Yea and Im slowly trying to clean it out. The tanks clean but I still need the new strainer since Ive cleaned the tank. Now its the cutting out and dying deal. Ill have and strainer today and later get the injectors installed again and intake on.
