22re oil pickup questin

replacing my oil pickup but cannot find a gasket for it . is there supposed to be one

I'm pretty sure I had one in my kit and I seem to remember scraping the old one off too. If I remember right it was just a paper gasket. You could probably just make one with some gasket material.

There is supposed to be one. If it's not there the pump will start sucking air.

Yes, there's supposed to be a gasket there. Get a sheet of gasket paper and make one.
