2'' Lift On a 2nd Gen 4Runner

I drive my 1993 4Runner in the bush everyday. (It is a work truck) As you have probably guessed, it is terrible sacked. I would be interested in 2'' of lift. I would also like a front bush bumper and a rear one. (something along the lines of ARB) What would be the best set up for a lift???? This thing has to be reliable. Also, I would like some lockers and gears. Are front and Back lockers a good idea??? just front??? just back???? ARM Air lockers???? whats the deal. It would be sweet if one of you dudes could help me out. A ~price would be helpful too.

Thanks.

I've been lookin into getting a mild lift for my runner too and this seems to be about the best deal out there.
If you have the $$, go with the ARB air lockers, but those are pretty pricey. I have looked around at different lockers and I would go with an Aussie http://www.offroadlockers.com/
They don't have a v6 rear locker out, but I have emailed them and they said they should be available by next summer. The nice thing about the Aussies is they run about $250 and I haven't heard of anyone breaking one.

I'd recommend looking into a SAS aka Solid Axle Swap or IFS elimination. I spent my money on an IFS kit 2 years ago and now am having to go SAS due to much carnage on the IFS front and rear (broken brackets, axles, axle housing ). Most of the trails I drive on are considered very basic for 4wd vehicles, my friend wheels it in his stock 90 runner. Also, you'll be able to redo the gears and what not when you install the lockers. I have the ARB on front and rear since this is also my daily driver and I don't want to always be locked. Good Luck, Oh feel free to correct me but aren't 4Runners stock 2" of lift (mine came with 31's when I bought it, traded the 2wd Tacoma in and ended up with a 4runner and a check for over 5000 ). So you may want 3-4" of lift depending on tire size you want to run too. Read around the forum and web about the SAS, that's where I learned a lot of my information. It may cost you a penny, I think there is a thread about that too right now. Good Luck!!!

If you are looking for a mild lift on your 2nd gen. I reccomend balljoint spacers and rear coil spring spacers...there is a kit in the classifieds for sale.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98320
I will vouch for him. Everything is almost brand new.

Idid the 1.5" rear coils (I got the softer ones) & the BJ spacers - works like a charm. I got an ARB in the front & it is great. for the rear bumper I would recommend

http://www.bigcountrycustoms.com/bumpers/toyota.shtml

You can go with lockers but it depends on what kind of driving you are doing. I would do sliders if you are worried about body damage. Get a winch for the ARB.

You are looking at serious coin here.

front bumper 1K
rear bumer 1K
winch 500
lift 250
sliders 250
lockers ?

so far you are at 3K without sliders

BJ Spacers $100 , 2" spring spacer $89 , Small amount of t-bar crank $free and 1" body lift $12 (had uhmw cut to 1" and drilled, harware local store). Grand total $201
I put longer shocks on and TT in ther front along with 4:88's and 33x12.5x15's Obviously more, but for chaep the lift worked good.

I put a Downy HD coils on mine a 2" Peformance Body lift.. pretty simple set up. I'd steer clear of the Ball Joint spacers...

first off, welcome to the board

lots of your questions will be already answered in other posts on the site if you do research

and lots of the things you mentioned i wanna do, too

i've found that at retail prices it all is pretty pricey. arb f & r definitely the way to go not to be locked all the time, but fully locked w/the flick of two switches. and you might as well regear. expect 2000 to 2500 bones for that w/shop install. rear lift, go w/old man emu 901hd's or land cruiser coils (2" to 4") so you can fit 33x12.5s . as for front, get some locking hubs and ball joint spacers if you don't wanna crank the t bars (might still want to, to even out the cruiser coils). this'll be at least 300 more big ones if you install yourself.

or sas it, lots of stuff bout that. search for the dirt cheap sas thread on here somewhere. otherwise marlin's got a nice kit for like 1600, but lots of extra little stuff needs to be found in addition (don't forget the donor axle!)

happy modding!

FJ 80 springs run between 20 - 40 depending on where you get em. BJ spacers and a little adjusting to the t-bar and you will be fine.
I did BJ spacers/1" BL/ FJ coils now and I run 33's no problem. The solid axle conversion is cool but it's definently for the hardcore wheeler. I ran Waja today (Rocky/8"snow/Lottsa mud/Slick) etc... and I had no problem, I have a True Trac LSD in the front and open rear (do to icy weather) and I love it.
It is all up to you as far as budget and how mechanically inclined you are.
As long as ground clearance is good and tires don't rub your good.
Traction devices are individual type of items, any item can go bad and each is specific for how aggresive you wheel and what kind of terrain and elements (ice/snow/mud) you have.
Good luck and Pics when completed.

I would recomend a 2" body lift. You can buy from 4crawler.com or DIY for under $50. Maybe some LC springs in the rear if you carry a good load. Then lockright rear, and a supra LSD in the front. I got my LSD for $25 in good shape and the lockright was somthing like $230. So under $500 gets you setup. Even with 31s you'll get a lot of places many could only dream about. If you want more tire then that then you'll have to gear match in order to make it good on the street.

Just to clear things up, the bj spacers are 1 5/8" not 1.5". Not much but a good FYI for guys like me who should have measured them before assuming since everyone calls them 1.5". For me I needed a 1.25" to 1.5" spacer and that extra 3/8" lead to this: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/hop-hop-hop-pop-axle-98753/
I had mine machined down to 1 1/4"

If you are carrying a ton of weight, sounds like you might be. I reccommend BJ spacers, and rear springs, and possibly air bags inside the coils. The all you have to do is carry a bike pump with built in gauge and you have an adjustible spring.

As far as bumpers, the ARB is the best IMO, and for the rear its up to what you want. I had a allpro on mine and it was great, but no tire carrier.

For lockers, selectable is the only way to go if you see a ton of road and espically if you ever see snow/ice. I would get an ARB, just do one at first and see if its enough, the second is cheaper since you already have the pump.

If you are mechanically inclined at all take your 3rd member to a gear shop, this will save you R&R costs.
