Chefyota I am diggin ur attitude :-D I think ill put the $ 4 the cam & header into my 80 4x4. The 4runner is my wife's daily driver w/ my daughter. That's y I was after the Bosch injectors my buddy put them on his 2wd 22re he said it boosted his mpg up 6mpg so I'm interested in seeing the results In a 4x4. The 4:33s would b 2 insure she's the biggest yota out n my area. Not to many yota builders but parts r cheap & everywhere. But ima going to work towards installing that 16inch electric fan & the custom pipe work 4 my wife is going to drive it did I mention she used to have an explorer that she hydroplaned it rolled 3times still drove it she'd squeeze in to parking spots n 1 time she slid a jeep out. Of a half way occupied parking space so the bars on all 4corners r a must cuz I'm not doing body work yet lol

Ahhhh, well, sup to you. I would have to do more research on the Bosch injectors before I would recommend either way. I know that in later model 22RE's they did different impedance injectors that had a different/better spray pattern.... I think that's part of what improved the later years 22RE's mileage.

My buddy has an 87 22r with a weber, header and engnbldr head... HE LOVES the gains he got from it. Definite help on the hills, etc. I would call engnbldr for sure, if I were you, and just have a chat with him(or email ted and ask "what's the best gains for my 80 22R?" .... Ted will not likely tell you to grab a header, but the ones he DOES like is the tri-y style, like doug thorley. The original manifold is a tri-y design, and he likes the stock manifold a lot.) Tod, his son, is the one you'd talk to at the shop. Ted is semi-retired but still has LOTS to say about things over there, I'm feeling, lol.

4.10 gears are stock(maybe even smaller in the 80, I can't remember... GUYS?) 4.30 was an Automatic gear size for 86 and up to????... And just saying, if you're gonna run 31's, it's 4.56's..... 33's, 4.88's..... 35's, 5.29's..... The larger the tire, the higher number goes in the gear ratio. ya know?

PS> Your wifey is a wild girl, it sounds, eh? lol. Sorry bout her accident, glad she's ok

She's fine thanks chef!! the 80 has 4:10s I opened & counted teeth. I have a pipe set up 4 my 80 I jus need to finish the 4runner lol. The runner has 4:10s 4:30s were in auto 4runners 89 & up I believe. On my 80 I'm saving up $$ to do a 20/22r w/ the rv cam I don't know its specs. But I have all the parts :-) jus need time & the gasket set. Do u know if 22r head bolts r torque to yield? Or can u reuse them?? Would it matter if the head was/wasn't warped??

Would it matter if the head was warped....pertaining to what? Re-using it? Related to ...the head bolts? You CAN clean up head bolts and re-use them... I have the same set on mine at 265K miles(realistically 280K(?) with 31's for 150K miles on 4.10's, lol). BUT, I had no HG failure, no major corrosion, etc. I just cleaned them up really well... and then the MOST important part, CLEANING OUT the threading in the block. Chase those REALLY well. They make taps just for that, but most would clean them out as nice as possible with bottle brush and cleaners and keep flushing it out,....then chase them with the proper chaser.

Far as torquing to yield? Once you clean everything out and grab a set of new bolts, I'd torque them down to 63#, at least, max 65#. The 58# recommended in the FSM has been updated, even by toyota, not only in the 22RE, but also the 3VZE and 5MGE and 7MGE motors... I'm sure some others, as well.

If the head IS warped, .... gotta have a GOOD machinist tell you whether it's worth it or not to try and plane the head/will it mess with clearance and then if so, what do you need to do on the deck, if anything. A 20r/22r hybrid has some very specific specs that need to be followed.... I'm sure there are PLENTY of threads on that if you're going that route. Might even be a website for solely that purpose(I'm sure there is).

Aww I wasn't specific lol if the head was warped can I reuse the head bolts. I know what I need to do 4 the 20/22r as far as research I didn't know specs of rv cam. But I have 20r head intake carb & a pre-84 block just saving 4 gasket set & to turn the crank. I use knightons machine shop in alb nm

Well, if the head was warped, it might not matter if you're using a different head... as long as you have the head bolts looked at to be sure they're true and 'cleanable', ya know? Personally.... for 50$ or so? I'D NOT skip on the head bolts... But I'd DEFINITELY not skip on the cleaning/CHASING those threads, either, ya know? lol.

Sounds like fun, man! I am maybe getting a motor/transless 87 4Runner that I would do a 1UZ swap on.. But have to weigh out if it's worth it. NO rust, everything but the trans and motor ......AND ENGINE WIRING HARNESS is there, lol. Yeah, so there's THAT, hahaha. Not sure I would worry about that if I'm doing a 1UZ or other swap though, ya know? So, I might have some research to do myself, lol. NO, wait.... I WILL have PLENTY to do, either way! LOL.... You KWIMean, right? lol.

Yeah i agree i never saved them I usually scrap them. & I think there only 30$ :-D sweet I hope u can get that other runner. I have my 81 tercel & a 85 tercel wagon 4x4 SR5 & I'm going to buy my buddies 77 celica w/ less then 90k original miles he's the 3rd owner. So the 80 4x4 is my daily driver & toy. The 87 4runner is my wife's I just get to spoil it. But very interested in ur build keep me posted. I saw a 1989 4x4 truck w/ a 7mgte in it. It was sick look it up on YouTube I think it's under 500 hp Toyota

Coffee, ... WHERE? GIMME! hahaha. JK, ... Nope, just a bit restless having spent the last 180 days, 16 hours a day or so, either working or care giving.... Just 'exhausted crazy', not 'coffee crazy', ya know? hahaha.

Speaking of Wabbits.... was just about to make an order on that Bikini the other day.... when suddenly, that 87 Donor-Runner popped into the picture! hahaha. I want one of those Bikini's so bad, but once again,....have to hold off, ya know?

BTW, How's it going, Wabbit?

PS> Call Witchhunter.com and see if they have one laying around. BTW... I thought mine was dead, shortly after it got a 'PASS"... but actually, it had completely jammed up with gunk that flew free from the rail when I reassembled... They hit it with 12V and a tap with a lil tool and VOILA, it's worked fine since! Might take it out and see if it's actually the injector being dead?

Hmmmm, probably not going to be any help at all regarding the carb issues... I'm sub'd to that thread.. Saw something about 350 Carb and RAN AWAY! hahaha... JK, but really, I have very lil to add as I've not really dug into a 22R, ever. Always had 22RE's since I've worked on em. Worked on my 83 SR5 a bit, but mostly just minor maintenance, as that had 38K Orig. Miles on it.... so NOTHING WENT WRONG, ever! haha. Wish I could help... But I know a few that might, I'll send em a PM and see if they can't stop by and lend you a hand(can't promise anything... especially on a weekend lol).

Have you tried pulling the connector to that injector, first, before pulling the plenum.... and slapping 12V to it really quick?(Maybe give it a tap in the body/center to see if that frees up the plunger while you have 12V to it?) See if you get it to 'click'? That would be telling in regards to the harness wiring... Could also run the basic tests at the ECU to see if it's a No.10 or No.20 Y-connection issue... But first I'd just run 12V to the injector and see if it clicks, ya know?

Before blaming the injector, make sure you are getting a good connection to the injector. The 88s and older have a poor design and can look to be making a connection and not be working. Try pushing on the connector while it is running and see if the miss goes away.
