#1 Cylinder Not Firing

22RE has been running like poo-poo for some time, finally got to look at it. Been noticing a miss, but hasn't affected driveability. In the garage, the fumes are horrific, but no smoke. Started messin' with it today and discovered no change when I pull the #1 wire. Get spark off the wire, even pulled the plug and get spark there. Plug looks the same as the other three, not wet or anything. Only seems to have the stumble/misfire at low RPM's. Weak spark? I'm befuddled, to say the least.

Sounds like the injector may not be working properly. I'm going to assume you've ran valve adjustments too, right?
So it idles rough but doesn't seem to be down on power at higher rpms? Is that what you're saying?

Have you checked the compression?

Valves are adjusted properly, haven't gotten the gauge for a compression test. Engine only has about 5k on it, so I wouldn't say it's likely to be compression. I know it's the original distributor...

Try replacing distributor and if that does not help it may just be the coil. This is assuming that you have done check test and since the motor is new yea. I'd say if its the original coil or distributor it can cause this.....

It was WAY tight valves on the #1 cylinder! They've been adjusted twice since the build, then they go tight for no reason...

And why on only one out of four??

Maybe the head bolts need to be retorqued and things are slightly warping? That is kind of a guess, but makes sense in my head. If this is the Engnbldr head in your sig, try e-mailing him. He always seems to respond quickly and probably knows the answer.
