to rebuild or to re-ring that is the ???
hello i am new to yotatech and just had a question
I just bought a 1985 toyota 4runner ro $500 the thing is awesome, it has 157,7XXmiles and runs great has plenty of power in town and off road but has a hard time on the highway, anyway I was thinking of doing a "re-ring kit"(ARE THEY WORTH IT?) and gaskets, injectors, oil pump, etc OR should I just do a full rebuild?
any insight would be greatly appreciated

In fact you must rebuild with a 100,000 + I can almost guarantee you have accsessive taper in your cylinder walls The truck I bought had a OE rebuild kit in it the people who rebuilt didnt bother to measure bore and taper and just reemed the ring ridge and threw it back together... like 2k later Its wont even read on the comp guage. I tore it down and I had like 8 thousandths of taper and all of my comp rings were shattered. The point being if you going to do anything I would completely tare it down have the block checked out and rebuild to the proper spec its wirth it to have it done right..... and once its all apart you have the opportunity to upgrade lol
