Questions regarding a 1.5in shackle lift on my 84 4wd p/u

Hey everyone I have a 84 Toyota Pickup 4wd 5spd diesel and I am planning on adding a 1.5 in shackle lift only in the rear. As with most Toyotas the rear end sags and it doesnt help having 31" tires all around on a stock suspension either. Anyways I chose this route for ease of installation and just to prevent my tires from damaging the wheel well.

My questions are:

Other then the install, what else do I need?
ie longer shocks etc.

Could this possibly damage my driveshaft or anything else?

I dont plan on doing much off roading with this truck. It is more of my daily driver and hauler when I need it.

Any answers/advice is greatly appreciated!

You are only going to see about 1" of lift, so shocks are fine and driveshaft is fine. Your good. I would look at getting new shocks and maybe an add-a-leaf to bring the ass end up a bit. With just shackles you still have a warn out suspension, just propping it up a bit, like a crutch.

in general, you'll only see about 1/2 of the extra shackle length added to your lift. So a 1.5" longer than stock shackle adds about 3/4" of lift if the shackle is at 45 degrees.
if you're looking to compensate for a sagging rear, my first suggestion is replacing the springs. Add-a-leafs would be my next suggestion... then extending the rear shackles would be the last option.

I wasn't sure if he knew that and was adding 1.5" of shackle or 3"s or what. As always I agree with Abe.

You may need to shim the rear axle to correct the pinion angle change caused by the longer shackles:

So you guys are saying that the claimed 1.5" lift is actually going to be 1/2"? What a bunch of crap. Who the hell would waste their money for 1/2"? If I knew this I would never have bought them...

Best to measure the center-center length and compare that to stock (~3.5"). Shackle lift vs. length explained below:

So if the shackles are 5" c-c, then you'll see about 3/4" lift, if they are ~6.5" (3" over stock) then you'll see about 1.5" lift.

Ok, so I got the shackles yesterday and they are 3" longer then stock from center of pin to center of pin. I think I am definitely going to need them for a roadtrip I am starting on soon. I will have a few people in my truck as well as over 500lb in the bed. Seeing as how it will be a long roadtrip (CO-NY and back) I dont want to run into any problems with my truck. Since it is 3" longer then stock I will probably need shims. Where can I get these and what size should I get? Could I put off getting longer shocks for a bit?

General rule of thumb is 1 degree per extra inch of shackle length:

Or best to measure the angle change before and after installing the shackles (simple tape measure technique works fine):
