Mutt truck?
I'm trying to replace the head on my 87 4wd pickup and I don't know what's right on my truck the head for my truck has pear shaped exhaust ports but the exhaust manifold ports are round. I don't know what year group to replace my head with 81-84 or 85-95. Please look at the picture and tell me if anything is out of place so to speak pistons, exhaust ports etc.

You'll need an '85-'95 with pear shaped ports. Look on your exhaust manifold flange in the picture, above each port is a hole. It looks like you took it off, but its a copper tube that connects to each hole. Its for the Secondary Air Injection system (it introduces clean air into the exhaust to speed up the catalyst process in the converter when its cold)

Thank you for your response, you're right I did take that copper tube off when I was taking the head off, thank you for clarifying for me. I'm on the hunt for a used 22r/e 85-95 because the timing chain slipped on the previous owner and bent all 4 intake valves.

fwiw you can swap in an 81-84 long block and use all your accessories just make sure u get the water pump pulley cuz 85-95 are different. most mid 82-84 heads have provisions for an EFI manifold.
Clean your header up with a wire wheel on a drill and clean up the face of your egr port too making sure to keep debris out of the engine at all times and don't let coolant piss in to your cylinder walls.
sorry about what happened to you. are you replacing the whole engine?
Too bad you're not closer to me cuz i have 2 engines for sale
