lower front bumper valance?

sorry, new the the 1st gen game. i've got an '85 4runner and it has a metal lower front bumper valance held on by 4 phillips head screws. it's pretty beat and rusty and i'm going to take it off tomorrow. checked on ebay for a replacement and the only one's i see for sale are listed as '86-'88, looks like the mounting holes are in the right spots but without just giving it a try i would have no idea if it fits. anyone out there know if they are interchangeable?

here is what i'm looking at.

thanks.

Most towns and cities have aftermarket parts depots. That's alot for shipping. Call one of the bigger body shops in town and ask what the local aftermarket parts place is called.

thanks JD (sorry been watching a lot of Scrubs lately )

i'll call around and see if anyone is willing to reveal the secret, but getting info from these people around here is like pulling teeth, i've dealt with a lot of them over the years.

yeah, shipping is quite high, it's like that for most of the aftermarket parts vendors on ebay. they usually list something cheap but offset that with expensive shipping; i figured it was comparable to a $30 part with $10 shipping. but i know they do that to get around the ebay fees.

i'll shop around with the locals and see what they've got. thanks.

Ask the seller. They will know if it works for you and if it doesn't they will tell you which one you need.

Edit: Found this from the same seller:

Quite a bit more expensive.

thanks guys. yowza! that '84-'85 is crazy expensive! the only difference i see is an extra cut out for a tow hook, you'd think it would be cheaper with less metal

i'm heading out to pick up parts from an '88 this weekend, we'll see what kind of shape and price that one is. and, the old one is already off now so if i can't get a replacement cheap i'll run with it off until i find a deal on another one.

thanks guys/girls

Put an ARB winch bumper on the front and you won't need the valence....

I hate the stock valence, it seems so cheap and flimsy, like its made of a pop can =x I would just put a tube bumper that sits low.

yep, the two screws holding it on at each end were rusted on, i got the dremel out and cut some notches and then just bent it a few times back and forth and it broke apart. real thin and flimsy stuff. i'm not going to put another one back on. once i get some fun tools this summer i'm going to build something better. since this is my project fun vehicle, i might have to try my hand at building front and rear bumpers, but that's not going to happen soon.

thanks for the links and suggestions

tube bumpers are real simple to make if you have a good welder and pipe cutter, and bender =x I go back to my high school shop (graduated a while ago, rofl) when I need a pipe bender though
