Decking block with t-cover

Rebuilding my 22re and I just got everything back from the machine shop. They did not deck the block with the timing cover as I had asked...the timing cover is untouched, but took 7 thousandths off the block. They insisted that it was unnecessary and there was enough play with the timing cover so that it wouldn't make a difference. Does that make sense or should I take the block and t-cover to somebody else to get the t-cover flush with the deck? Thanks!

mount the cover and take a straight edge to the block and see if it gaps. But I feel like you're gonna have to have it done.

Well, I just bolted it on and it appears to be, if anything, slightly lower than the deck. Thank you for the tip!
