I took my entire intake off in pretty much one shot. It was difficult, but resulted in the least amount of work.

Here's the problem. If i pull/push the throttle the bronze wings in the carb don't do anything. When I took it off it seemed like both of them moved and then it seemed one stopped and then before I knew it neither of them were really responsive to the throttle. I'm not too familiar w/how it all works or how it really should work as all of this stuff is very new to me (learning experience). I'm putting my engine back together tomorrow after a head gasket replacement and it is the only vehicle i have and it's my dd, so it needs to work. lol....

The one on the left does not do anything any more. I can move it with my fingers, but is unresponsive to the throttle when I move the throttle. This entire unit is dismantled from the head.



The one closest to you in the pic moves (opens slightly) only when the throttle is buried:

That's normal... the carb has an electric choke that opens one side and the other side gets opened by the suction of the motor. if your talking about the secondary not opening on the bottom there is a vacuum module that pulls on a lever(pictured below) which is what allows the secondary to open.

thanks, you are freakin awesome!!! I thought I bumped something or bent it because i swear I just moved it and it was done working. Takes a little pressure off the situation, life is on track again for completely assembly tomorrow evening.

also, make sure the 5 phillips head screws on top of carb are tight. the fifth screw is in the hole between the choke plates. it should slow down the little leak around the top of the carb.

will do! I did just spray it w/some carb cleaner. The outside of it and got a little over spray as you can see where the gasket is. If there is a leak there it's not much. Thanks for the advice though. I will tighten them.

so i hooked it up to my truck and it still doesn't work correctly. Any ideas? Same symptoms

Does anyone know about these hoses. I originally had them swapped around and I believe that was correct, but I couldn't find any reference pictures that I should have taken.

Where does the vacuum switch hose lead to? It's hard to tell, it looks like it just ends and doesn't plug into anywhere.

It looks like it hooks up to one of the steel "vacuum line highways". Look just above the "resonator" as labeled. It looks like it hooks up to the tube second from bottom in that section of "steel vacuum highway lines".

Anyway, look about 2mm above the resonator. Two hoses criss-cross right in front of where the switch hose hooks up to the steel line.

im actually having the same problem with my 84 pickup and i thought it was the interior of the carb. so i rebuilt it....ended up the ASV as labeled in the diagram sucked up water where i ran without a proper air breather and clogged all my vac. lines up. i ended up replacing all of them. but mine would idle at like 4000 rpm and backfire it was really bad.

did you end up fixing it or was the 4k RPM a sympton when it was brode before you found it was the ASV
