anyone upgrad the ignition system on 22r?

I'm looking to possibly upgrade the ignition system on the 20/22r that i've got and was wondering what people are using and if it is worth it or not as far as any gains in efficiency and/or power. Just not sure if I want to or now and trying to find options and see what people have done before I make the decision.

I noticed a pretty good difference with the Fireball I put on mine. Whether it's worth the money to put one on that's new is up for debate, but if you can find one of those or an msd 6AL with coil (most popular option) for cheap used, I think it was worth it. Paid very little for mine from a guy on here who was having issues hooking it up to a 3.0. $40 I think for the ign box and the coil.

i wouldnt mess with it unless your ignition system cant keep up with the increase in power you are making due to aftermarket mods. if you are stock or just have bolt on mods, its not needed and use the money for a tune up instead

My opinion: There is little you can do with the 22r/e to significantly increase performance. I just stick with OE parts. If you want more power, a different motor may be in order.

Unless you are going racing or building a high output street motor stay with the factory setup. You can build a 22R motor to put out 300+ horse power and be streetable.

4WD Toyota Owner had a article in the last issue about swapping over to GM parts since the Toyota coil pack is $300 to replace. GM parts cost $30 total, considering doing that, a little easier on the checkbook to carry around a spare $30 in parts when wheeling, vice, $300 and since the stock Toyota isn't a raging fireball to begin with the GM should be fine. Had the Jacobs Offroad setup, it gave a little extra power, but after it died the second time in a year, off it came.
