85 PU straight front axle

I have an 85 regular cab PU with a straight front axle. The axle leaks at the heim joints. My brother has his own mechanic shop and has rebuilt several of these to get them to stop leaking with no results. Does anyone know of another vehicle that I could get a straight axle out of and mount into my truck with little modification.

Unless you are going full width 3/4 or 1 tons (which would require probably more modification that what you are probably looking for) you really couldn't find anything to match a toyota axle as far as size and strength.

Yes... were is it leaking exactly?

If you mean at the knuckles... and leaking gear oil... then it's the internal axle seal that has failed.

Marlin makes a much better one than OEM, but if the housing is bent or knuckles are aligned improperly then that seal will fail quickly over and over again.

Aren't Dana 44's just as strong and about the same width?

I don't doubt that 44's are probably as strong but with a ring gear of 8.75" its not much bigger than a toyota 8" and you have to think about bolt pattern. Just my opinion

screw it....go full width...Dana 60's front and rear...with a 14in lift kit...and some 54x19.50 Super Swamper BOGGERS!!...with a built 426 hemi...lol..nah..im just kiddng...please dont do that..(but it would be awesome) go to a junkyard and get another axle...thats what i would do...but..idk if it would be as good..might be worse than yours...just rebuild it...and if you do serious offroading..then regear...go longs..hy-steer...all that jazz when u do the rebuild...save you time on having to do it later..lol
