84 4Runner 268k miles, what would you do first?

I just bought an 84 4runner w/268k miles on it. I can tell there are a lot of warn parts on it. I'm not really sure where in the heck to start as far as replacing things. As of right now I don't want to add larger tires or lift it. I have 31's on it and it may be lifted already an inch or two. Seems a little higher from stock, but may just be the little larger tires.

The engine seems to run great and has quite a bit of power compared to the two 85 trucks i've owned in the last few months. The tranny is good and the clutch. The 4 wheel drive, high and low work awesome too!

There was a strange noise when I was reversing up a small hill and turning too. Not sure what causes that. It wasn't from the tranny or engine.

Any input on stuff to checkout and what I should look for as far as things I should or want to replace to bring this thing back up to par again?

Things I know it needs:

New exhaust

it does it going forward too. It doesn't do it too often, but it sounds like an intermittent mouse sound.lol. Best way to describe it.

What's the point if it is not mechanically sound? Engine/drivetrain first. Period.

The engine works well and the drivetrain works well too.
