22r running rich
hey guys im having some trouble getting my 22r to run good. i have searched everywhere but i couldnt find anything that was similar to my problem. its a 85 toyota pickup that i just swapped a used 22r from a 88 i think thats what the guy said. the motor starts and runs good for a couple of mins and then starts to sputters and spit thick black smoke from the exhaust and then just die out. so its running rich for sure and i checked the fuel level on the bowl and its completely full of gas when its running. i know the fuel level on the the bowl should be in the middle of the little glass sight. i changed all the vacuum lines when i did the swap as well as the fuel pump. should there be an adjustment screw for the the bowl? i never replaced the return line and the truck did sit for a while a long time ago when it had the old motor and before i took the gas tanks out and cleaned it. well if you have any suggestions on what it might be please let me know. thanks

There should be an idle/mixture screw and a fast idle screw on the pass side of the carb. If you have just a chilton's manual, it shows where they are on the breakdown of the carb.

i had the same exact problem i took the carb appart and bent the tap on the float so the gas level would be right then i adjusted the air fuel mixture screw and replaced the fuel pump and she is runing great

Thanks for replies. I have tried to adjust the fuel mixture and fast idle screw but that didn't change anything. What all do I have to take apart on the Carb to be able to get to the tap on the float, and how do I know if it needs to be bent back? I have replaced the fuel pump with a new one as well as the plastic spacer that came with it. Well I appreciate the help guys.
