Cluster Swap Question

Okay, after 30 minutes of searching I decided just to ask.

I have a 1982 toyota pickup, has an sr5 tailgate, would like to swap in an sr5 cluster.

I have the choice of two SR5 clusters, one is from a 4wd 82 the other a 2wd 83.

I found out where I need to run a new tach wire, and they have the connectors attached with the harness cut, so I will have a guide for the wire colors, and the connectors look identical.

I have heard you need an oil sender instead of a switch, is this true even though the sr5 cluster has a light like the current cluster?

I am pretty anal about the mileage being correct. The clusters read around 280k each, I need to get it to 339k, Is this possible? How?

Thanks everybody.

I would use the 82 cluster because it will probably be a perfect match for your stock wiring, as for the oil sending unit, you only need to change it if the cluster your swapping in has a gauge and the old cluster had a light. if the new cluster your swapping in has a light like your old one, then you won`t need to change the oil sending unit.

No, it will work as is. I put an SR5 gauge cluster from an 84 2wd truck into my 84 4Runner 4x4 and it was a direct swap, and yours should be the same.

I have no idea of how you would modify the odometer, ive heard of people on other forums swapping there original speedometer/odometer into the new cluster, but to me thats just to much work and theres always the posibility of breaking something.
