22r 2.25 pipes!!???

is there any proven benefit other than a nice tone to a 2.25 pipe and muffler out of the stock manifold on a 22r with no emissions?im trying to fix my leaky exaust from the end of the stock down pipe back. any suggestions would be appreciated?

Only thing I could think of is that you might loose some back pressure if you go to big which in turn is lose of power.

It also depends on whether it has any performance parts on it. Once it's opened up with a weber/cam/etc the 2.25 should be what you are running imo. Most performance headers you can purchase come 2.25 or 2.5 if I am not mistaken.

FWIW any new OEM-style muffler is 2.25", and most exhaust shops will recommend moving up to 2.25.

I recognize the additional power from a header, but I consider exhaust work on a stock manifold to be by-and-large BS.
Alot of exhaust mods give the illusion of power because it makes the car sound louder.

i would run the bigger size exhaust, if your manifold cracks(which they do) you can buy a header and wake up the old engine.

i installed a header and 2.5" exhaust, cold air intake and had more power, low mid and top end, on my 22re, before i did my swap.

well, heres my deal,i had/have a stock exaust front to back..last weekend i took the whole thing out, had a whole in my downpipe from rubbing on my leaf spring bolt, trimmed bolt ,welded a patch on the downpipe, had 6 leaks from the flexible pipe to tailpipe.proceeded to weld up every joint! took all the crappy clamps off. im gonna wait till spring and save for a header to tailpipe 2.25 exaust.dont wanna half arse it then add a header later! thanks for all the input guys!!!

That is a legit exhaust mod. You really have to go all the way to get good flow, otherwise you'll just end up with a tuner with a fart can!
